Adaptación cinematográfica de la novela homónima de Blasco Ibáñez, publicada en 1916. Julio Madariaga, el patriarca de una acomodada familia argentina, verá como el ascenso del nazismo en Europa divide a las dos ramas de su familia. La rama francesa, encabezada por Julio Desnoyers (Glenn Ford), se enfrentará a la rama alemana, los Von Hartrott, cuya militancia nazi les permitirá ocupar puestos de importancia en la Werhmacht. Finalmente, al estallar la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945), ambas familias se encontrarán divididas y enfrentadas.

Louise Elisabeth Glück (Nueva York, 22 de abril de 1943) es una poetisa estadounidense en lengua inglesa. Fue la duodécima poeta laureada (2003-2004) por la Biblioteca del Congreso de los Estados Unidos. El 8 de octubre del 2020 se anunció que ganó el Premio Nobel de Literatura.

Averno is a small crater lake in southern Italy, regarded by the ancient Romans as the entrance to the underworld. That place gives its name to Louise Glück's tenth collection: in a landscape turned irretrievably to winter, it is a gate or passageway that invites traffic between worlds while at the same time resisting their reconciliation. Averno is an extended lamentation, its long, restless poems no less spellbinding for being without conventional resoltution or consolation, no less ravishing for being savage, grief-stricken. What Averno provides is not a map to a point of arrival or departure, but a diagram of where we are, the harrowing, enduring present.

Averno is a 2006 National Book Award Finalist for Poetry.
