「There will be blood」は「いずれ血に染まる」という意味です。旧約聖書出エジプト記の「十の災い」の中の一文「There will be blood everywhere in Egypt.」に由来

Texas, principios del siglo XX. Una historia sobre la familia, la avaricia y la religión. Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) se traslada a una miserable ciudad con el propósito de hacer fortuna, pero, a medida que se va enriqueciendo, sus principios y valores desaparecen y acaba dominado por la ambición. Tras encontrar un rico yacimiento de petróleo en 1902, se convierte en un acaudalado magnate. Cuando, años después, intenta apoderarse de un nuevo yacimiento, tiene que enfrentarse al predicador Eli Sunday (Paul Dano). Adaptación de la novela de Upton Sinclair "Petróleo", escrita en 1927.

監督は、この映画はアプトン・シンクレアの小説『Oil!（邦題：石油!）』にインスパイアされているが、映画に組み込んだのは最初の150ページだけで、ストーリーは全く異なっていると述べている。（小説では、主役が息子である点など）

Oil! is a novel by Upton Sinclair, first published in 1926–27 and told as a third-person narrative, with only the opening pages written in the first person. The book was written in the context of the Harding administration's Teapot Dome scandal and takes place in Southern California. It is a social and political satire skewering the human foibles of all its characters.

The main character is James Arnold Ross Jr., nicknamed Bunny, son of an oil tycoon. Bunny's sympathetic feelings toward oilfield workers and socialists provoke arguments with his father throughout the story. The beginning of the novel served as a loose inspiration for the 2007 film There Will Be Blood.

Władysław Strzemiński (Minsk, 21 de noviembre de 1893 - Łódź, 26 de diciembre de 1952) afamado pintor vanguardista polaco. Durante los años 1920, formuló su teoría del unismo, sus pinturas unísticas inspiraron las composiciones musicales de Zygmunt Krauze. Autor del libro "La teoría de la visión", fue cocreador de una colección de arte vanguardista única de Lodz recogida por entusiastas miembros del colectivo “A.R.” como Katarzyna Kobro, Henryk Stażewski, Julian Przyboś o Jan Brzękowski.

Tras la Guerra fue instructor de artes plásticas y diseño. Se casó con Katarzyna Kobro y estuvo siempre muy vinculado a la ciudad de Łódź, en cuyo antiguo cementerio descansan sus restos y donde la Real Academia de Bellas Artes lleva su nombre.
