Every time you use a DVD player or a laser printer, you are using the discovery of three Nobel Laureates in Physics! Charles Townes, Nicolay Basov and Aleksandr Prokhorov shared the 1964 Physics Prize for their fundamental work, which led to the construction of lasers. Their theory for the laser effect is still the one that fundamentally describes all lasers. More about the laser Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin receives her Nobel Prize. She Brought Crystallography into a New Age Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin was arguably the most outstanding X-ray crystallographer of her time.  She succeeded in determining the structure of penicillin and later determined the structure of vitamin B12. She is one of only four women awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
