September ９月は『老人と海』 The Old Man and the Sea

Ernesto Mr. T が文学に、そして英語に、更にはスペイン語に興味を持つ切っ掛けとなった Ernest Hemingway の小説、The Old Man and the Sea は 1952年の 9月１日号の Life 誌に発表されました｡単行本として Charles Scribners' 社から出版されたのも 9月８日でした｡
　また、小説の設定自体が９月なのです｡

　冒頭から10ページほどの所に 以下のような記述があります｡

　"Keep warm oldman," the boy saod, "Remember we are in September."
　"The month when the great fish come," the old man said. "Anyone can be a fisherman in May."

　拙ブログでありますから、スペイン語訳も付しておきましょう。

　—Abríguese, viejo —dijo el muchacho—. Recuerde que estamos en septiembre.
　—El mes en que vienen los grandes peces —dijo el viejo—. En mayo cualquiera es pescador.



　冒頭から3分の1の辺りに次のような部分があります｡

　This far out, he must be huge in this month, he thought. ...

　this month とは ９月のことです。

　スペイン語では、以下のようです。

　《A esta distancia de la costa, en este mes, debe de ser enorme —pensó el viejo—. ...》
